Javier Milei's party, La Libertad Avanza, has admitted its resounding defeat in the legislative elections in Buenos Aires province, held on Sunday, September 7. The Argentine press described the defeat as a "stinging defeat" that forced the libertarian leader to review his strategy for the October elections.
"On the political level, it is clear that we have suffered a defeat, and we must accept it." These were the words spoken by Argentine President Javier Milei from the headquarters of his La Libertad Avanza (LLA) party in La Plata (south of Buenos Aires), following the results of the legislative elections in the province of Buenos Aires on Sunday, September 7.
Crucial – and allowing for the renewal of half of the representatives of the provincial Parliament every two years – these elections marked the victory of the Peronist coalition (Fuerza Patria, centre-left), represented by the governor of the province, Axel Kicillof, who obtained 47.3% of the votes, against 33.7% for LLA, a gap of more than 13 points.
